The Tale of a Steamroller...

If you haven't already, you should check the pre-Steamroller post before this one:

So last Sunday, I went to my third steamroller! I will tell you more about my
overall appreciation of the event at the end, 'cause the first thing you all want
to know is how well I fare with Rhyas. Yeah, don't try to hide it, I know that's
what you're here for...

First Game - Scenario 2 - Two Fronts

My opponent was playing Cygnar, with a kind of typical eCaine list:

eCaine
-Squire
-Ace
Max Tempest Blazer
Gun Mages wt UA
-Hunter
Black 13th
Gorman di Wulfe
Reinholdt

I won the roll and I decided to choose the side with a nice little forest on the
right to protect me from incoming fire, with also a wall in the middle and a hill
on the left. My opponent side also had a forest on the left, a shallow water in
the middle and a hill on the right (all from my perspective). He deployed first,
setting the Black and eCaine with his retinue between the forest and the water,
the Tempest behind the water and the Gun Mage between the water and the hill,
straight in front of his zone. Each 'jack stayed kind of close to their leader.
I deployed Rhyas and his battlegroup behind the wall, with the Ogruns behind the
forest. The prey was the Tempest.
First turn, he moved everything forward, but not to much, positioning some
blurred Tempest between the two zone and the Black in the forest.
My turn I occulted the Scythean and move my Battlegroup forward aggressively,
keeping 3 fury Rhyas with Tenacity, just to try to bait him with the Tempest. The
Ogruns went for a walk in the forest.
Second turn, he didn't take the bait and moved the Tempest in his zone, in face of
my Ogruns, and take some Brutal shots, but between the Forest and the armour, only
the Warchief fell (not having pathfinder left him a bit exposed). I was expecting
a swift retreat from his Tempest, but he instead went a bit side-way to flood his
zone. The rest of his army move forward, but not to much, fearing the beast in the
middle.
My second turn, I started by Rhyas and his Feat, with Dash for the good form. She
sliced a Tempest and Gorman, then sprinted back in the middle-back corner of his
zone. The Ogruns activated next, and went to town with their prey, having an
overall extra 3 inches. No need to say that between the Feat and two close combat
attacks each, a new prey was place upon the Gun Mages, which some of them
already engaged. Rhyas's battlegroup move to block LoS and protect her from Caine,
'cause she was quite close to him. Shreddy and the Forsakens moved into his zone,
to stop him from dominating. I also scored one Victory Point, since his objective
went down in the Ogruns charge.
My opponent third turn was short and sweet: between trying to kill my objective
and taking down an Ogrun, Caine tried to Overkill Rhyas. A shadow bullet from Ace
made my Scythean-wall useless, but between Tenacity, a transfer and the 2 first
shots of Caine missing, the assassination failed and he choose to Gatecrash as far
as he could.
My third turn was pretty straightforward. Forsaken went forward and blow up in the
face of the Black, and I got very lucky, killing all of them. Then, Rhyas put
Rapport on the Scythean, Scythean charge Caine, Caine die.

Second Game - Scenario 1 - Destruction

My opponent, a.k.a the French-guy, from France (actually a great guy, it just
funny to tease him about it), was playing Circle, the army he picked up for the
Journeyman League.

pKromac
-Druid Wilder
-Feral Warp Wolf
-Argus
-Gnarlhorn Satyr
Max Warpborn Skinwalkers wit UA
Shifting Stones wt UA
Blackclad Wayfarer

This game, I lost the toss, but I still get to choose my side and play second,
which was fine by me. There were some decors on the table, but they were mostly
irrelevant the whole game, which ended up to be a mosh pit in the zone.
He set up first, deploying Kromac and his battlegroup in the middle, with the Stone
around them, and the Warpborn on the right flank (still, from my point of view). I
then proceeded to use my mirror ability and put my battlegroup and solo in the
middle, with my Ogruns in front of his Warpborn, who were the prey.
My opponent first turn, every thing he had run, and Kromac put out his upkeep.
My first turn, I did the same as him and as in my first game, which was Occultation
on Scythean, Tenacity everywhere and running with all that could do it.
His second turn, he move forward more slowly, touching the zone with a couple of
model, to deny me some easy point, and placed his Warpborn a bit to close of my
Ogruns.
My second turn, I basically did the same thing that in my first game. I activated
Rhyas first, feated, cast Dash and charged his objective, which I damaged and
then proceeded to destroy one stone, and sprinted back in the middle of the no man's
land between the Warpborn and my Ogruns. The Ogruns activated and went all the way
with his Warpborn, leaving only the Alpha alive with half is life. His objective
crumbled down in the charge of the Warchief also. Here again, my beasts didn't do
much on the Feat turn, positioning themselves close to my army, while Zuriel and
some Ogruns touched the Zone.
His third turn, he miss-judged the distance between the Feral and my Scythean, and
failed the charge by a inch or two. He then destroyed my objective,
which let him disengage the Feral because of warpath and move forward toward the
Zone, his Wilder sacrificing her life to engage 2 Ogruns. Sadly, even with two
strike, the Alpha failed to kill any Ogruns.
My third turn, Rhyas went first, finishing first the Alpha then moved into the
Zone. The new prey was the Stone, and after my Warchief killed the Wilder, the
Ogruns quickly dispatched the Stone unit. Having still my two best on full healt,
I chose Kromac as the next prey. The Scythean, couple with Zuriel and the
Forsakens, put a solid blow in his beasts by killing the Feral and damaging the
two others.
My opponent fourth turn finally came, and with almost nothing left, charged
everything in, using his feat, and killed my Scythean, a Forsaken and the beloved
Shreddy, while holding on 4 transfer.
My turn came, and it was all or nothing. Since I had not lost any Ogruns, I first
sent in the Warchief, but failed to hit. Nonetheless, four of them charged Kromac,
plus the two others on the Satyr. I failed to kill the Satyr, but him and the
Argus were in such a bad shape that after 2 transfer, Kromac add nowhere to send
his wound without taking a killing backslash, and die.

Third Game - Scenario 6 - Incursion

My third game was against my Warmahordes arch-nemesis, Mr Joce, who play Cygnar.

Haley2
-Squire
-Stormwall
-Lancer
Min Tempest Blazer
Black 13th
Journeayman Warcaster

I lost the toss again, and my opponent chose the side, letting my go first,
something that I wasn't very happy about, since there was a lot of fire coming my
way. I struggled between the Swordmen or the Warspears, but the relatively high
RAT of his army leaded my to choose once again the Warspears for the resilience
over defense. His Stormwall was a bit off-center to the left, so I deployed Rhyas
and his battlegroup in the middle, with the solo around them. My Ogruns where
facing the Stormwall, right next to a Forest. Mr Joce deployed the Black in the
center with Haley, the Squire and the Lancer. The Tempest take the far left (from
my POV, always) with the Journeyman between them and the Stormwall. Going first, I
figured out that I could easily spare a Forsaken to take the right flag, since my
opponent got nothing on that flank, so I start moving everything ahead, sending
once again the Ogruns in a Forest for the concealment bonus. There again, Rhyas
occulted the Scythean.
My opponent first turn was simple: he moved everything forward, drop a pod in
front of my Scythean and killed the Warchief and another Ogrun. The Tempest had
move forward, but moved back full so I wasn't in charge range. Haley also cast
Deceleration.
My second turn, I tried an assault with the Ogruns against the Tempest, 'cause
they were the prey, but with Deceleration, I failed every spear shot. Zuriel flew
off and landed close to the middle flag, burning down two of the Black that were
hiding in a Forest near by. Scythean moved and chop down the pod. Rhyas and the
solo moved more on the right, preparing for my next turn.
My opponent second turn, he wanted to shot Zuriel, so I pointed on that he had
Stealth, which he negate with the last Black using the Magesight bullet cheap
trick. His Stormwall then proceeded to shot everything he got, but left Zuriel
alive with 6 in Body. The Lancer moved forward, in front of the Stormwall, kind of
blocking a potential charge from Zuriel. The Tempest came back and shot down some
more Ogruns. Then, out of nowhere, Haley activate and feated. I was so much into
my own strategies about the right flag and taking down that big thing of a
Stormwall, that I had completely forget about that damned feat of her. But as per
usual, I used my best poker face to deny Mr Joce the luxury of my incertitude, as
by now my whole plan had just get shattered in pieces. Also, the Journeyman move
closer to the right flag, not yet scoring.
So there is my turn three, under Haley's feat. My Forsaken can't reach the flag,
but I still move him toward it. Scythean destroyed the pod, again. The Warspears
tried some shots at the Journeyman, but to no avail. Shreddy went rabid and moved
to engage both the Stormwall and the Lancer, because I to like to mess up
activation order. Zuriel did the only productive thing by burning the last of the
Black. Rhyas moved behind Zuriel, out of range of the Lancer.
My opponent third turn, he allocated a lot to the Stormwall, and maybe one to the
Lancer. Then, he started with Haley, who telekinesised Super Shreddy out of the
way, and did some other stuff who leave her Focus empty. Lancer activated next and
engaged the Scythean. The Stormwall activated, and without moving started to shoot
at Zuriel, but ah ha ! Zuriel had Stealth, and no more Black to take it down.
Realizing the mistake, my opponent instead killed Shreddy, a Forsaken and the
Succubus. Meanwhile, the Tempest went for another round and killed some more
Ogruns, leaving my unit with two guys left standing. Haley was now hiding behind
the Stormwall and the Tempest made a wall in front of her.
My turn fourth came, and I realized I didn't have much still standing and in shape
to fight. Zuriel alone couldn't take the Stormwall, and the Scythean had a Lancer
in his scythes. At that point, the assassination was my only viable option left,
or that was at least the way I felt. So there is the assassination run: Rhyas
activated and feated, charging that huge base standing in front of Haley. Managing
to do 2 damages to the Stormwall, she teleported in his back side, where Haley was
having a nice pic-nic in the grass, not really expecting Rhyas to join in.
Nonetheless, there it was, Rhyas with 5 Fury against Haley with 0 Focus. Using the
free attack from the feat, I boosted to hit, and did a couple of damage, rolling
low. Then I bought an attack, boosted to hit, and got the Critical Decapitation. I
chose to boost the damage roll and scored a nice 8x2 for 16 damage, killing her
outright. Rhyas is awesome. Blight makes right.

Rhyas 3 - The Others 0

So that was the tale of my third Steamroller. Since we were 16 and did have the
time for a fourth game, I won the second place, having a strength of schedule of 1
point inferior to the other guy at 3-0. He was playing Borka Family Reunion tier
list. Would Rhyas have the better over him ? I guess we will never know. Or would
we ? Meh, I don't think so. Or maybe ? Heck, who know ? Not me, that's for sure.
Overall, a great experience, a special thanks to Pascal, our Press Gangster and
stay tune for more blog about Warmahordes !

On my way to my first Steamroller

That would have made for a very good title if it was indeed my first steamroller, but that's not the case, since it will be my third steamroller already.

Nonetheless, it is the first steamroller that I will report, so you might call it "On my way to my first Steamroller that I will do a report about", but then that's kind of too many words for a good and catchy title.

So first, this Steamroller is a bit special, because it's the ending event of a Journeyman League with just run in my town, and rather then the usual 2 List (Divide and Conquer) style, our Press Ganger choose to go with 1 List with Specialist, which is actually great! I like that option because you have to go with a more all-comer list rather then a skew, which I don't really appreciate (except when I need to give a lesson of Fair Sportmanship to someone, then I would happily go all skew).

So I decide to pick-up a good caster, a Legion caster, the best Legion caster, an all-comer caster! I guess you all figure out of whom I am speaking about: yes, you guessed it right, Rhyas, Sigil of Everblight. Wait what, that wasn't your guess? Oh well, that's sad.

So yeah, Rhyas. I choose her because she support both beast and infantry alike, and can do some personnal work, while having an awesome feat. Also, I love Zuriel, like really really much, both the model and his card, so I wanted a reason to take him, and quite frankly a stealthy Zuriel is a much happier Zuriel then a non-stealthy one. The list is actually a lot of model that I like, which just happen to fit in a Rhyas list.

Rhyas, Sigil of Everblight
-Succubus
-Zuriel
-Scythean
-Shreddy
Max Swordmen wt UA
Warmonger Warchief
Forsaken
Forsaken

Specialist
-Max Warspears wt UA

So basically, I can swap between the Warspear and the Swordmen, depending on the level of armour of my opponent, and the number of guns he brings to the fight. I know that the Warchief do absolutely nothing for the list if the Warspear aren't there, but I like him, and seriously with Rhyas feat it just seem to be so much fun (actually it is so much fun, as I happen to try out the list once before, and a teleporting beserker is the way to go. Don't know why the norse weren't doing it in back in the day...).

So there you have it, a fun all-comer list for a fun kind of casual Steamroller.
